How to make a Voice Calls

Voice calling lets you call your contacts using Okitel Desktop for free, even if they’re in another country. Voice calling uses your internet connection. Desktop calling is supported on Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 and newer and macOS 10.13 and newer. Group calls aren’t supported on Okitel Desktop at this time.

Use desktop calling

To make or receive voice calls on Okitel Desktop:

You’ll need an active internet connection on your computer and phone.
Okitel needs access to your computer’s microphone.
You’ll need to have an audio output device and microphone connected to your computer for calls.

Note: Use a headset for the best audio. Using a separate external microphone and speaker devices might cause echo.

Make a voice call

Open the individual chat with the contact you’d like to call.
Click the Voice call icon.

During the call, you can mute or unmute your microphone by clicking the Microphone icon. To end a call, click End call.

Answer a voice call

If you receive an incoming call, you can click:

Accept to accept the call.
Decline to decline the call.
Ignore or x to ignore the call.

Switch between voice and video calls

While on a voice call with a contact, you can request to switch to a video call. The contact you’re voice calling can choose to click OK or Switch to switch the call or Cancel to decline.

Hover over the Camera icon during the call.
Click the Camera icon.
The voice call will switch to a video call if your contact accepts the switch.

About desktop calling

You can make free voice and video calls to your contacts on WhatsApp Desktop if you have the app installed on your computer.

Desktop calling is supported on:

Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 and newer
macOS 10.13 and newer

To make or receive calls on WhatsApp Desktop, you’ll need:

An audio output device and microphone for voice and video calls.
A camera for video calls.
To grant WhatsApp permission to access your computer’s microphone and camera. WhatsApp needs access to your computer’s microphone for calls and camera for video calls.

Note: Group calls aren’t supported on WhatsApp Desktop at this time.

How to make a group voice call

Group calling allows up to 32 participants to join a WhatsApp group voice call if you are on the latest version of WhatsApp. Voice calling uses your phone’s internet connection rather than your mobile plan’s minutes. Data charges may apply. When you receive a group voice call, the incoming WhatsApp group voice call screen will show the participants on the call. The first contact listed will be the participant that added you. Group voice call history will appear in the CALLS tab. You can tap the call history to view the participants from the call. You can also join missed calls if they’re still ongoing.

Make a group voice call

Make a group voice call from a group chat

Open the group chat you want to voice call.

If your group chat has 33 or more participants, tap Group call
. Find the contacts you want to add to the call, then tap Voice call
.
If your group chat has 32 or fewer participants, tap Voice call
and confirm your decision. Only group members can participate.

Make a group voice call from the CALLS tab

Open WhatsApp, then tap the CALLS tab.
Tap New call
> New group call.
Find the contacts you want to add to the call, then tap Voice call
.

Make a group voice call from an individual chat

Open the individual chat with one of the contacts you want to voice call.
Tap Voice call
.
Once the contact accepts the call, tap Open
> Add participant.
Find another contact you want to add to the call, then tap ADD.
Tap Add participant if you want to add more contacts.

Join a group voice call

Join an incoming group voice call

You’ll receive a notification when someone invites you to join a group voice call.
If you can’t join, tap Ignore. To open the call info screen, tap the incoming call notification.
From the call info screen, you can preview the call participants and other invitees.
Tap Join to join the call.
While on the call, tap Open
to open the call info screen.

Tap Add participant to add more contacts to the call.
Tap RING to send a notification to people who’ve already been invited.

Join a missed group voice call

Open WhatsApp, then tap the CALLS tab.
If the call was started from a group chat, you can join by opening that chat and tapping Join.
If the call is ongoing, tap the call you’d like to join. This will open the call info screen.
From the call menu, tap Join.

Mute someone else

You can mute other participants in a group call. To do so, tap and hold on the participant’s name. Then press Mute. The participant can unmute themself at any time by tapping the microphone icon. You can message a participant directly on a group call by tapping and holding their tile.

Note:

During a group voice call, you won’t be able to switch the call to a video call.
You can’t remove a contact during a group voice call. The contact would need to hang up their phone to disconnect from the call.
While it’s possible to be in a group voice call with someone you’ve blocked, you can’t add a contact that you’ve blocked to the call or a contact that has blocked you. You can ignore the call if you don’t want to be connected with the blocked contact.
You can’t access emergency service numbers through WhatsApp, such as 911 in the United States. To make emergency calls, make alternative arrangements.
Since group calling is not supported on desktop or web, the person you are calling will only receive the call on their primary device.

About data roaming charges

WhatsApp uses the same internet connection as web browsing and email on your phone. If you use WhatsApp while your phone is roaming, data charges might apply. Contact your mobile provider for more information about roaming in other countries.

If you don’t have an international data plan, we recommend you turn off:

Mobile data and data roaming to avoid data roaming charges. You can visit your mobile provider’s support website for instructions.
Media auto-download over your cellular connection and roaming to avoid extra data charges.
