Video Calls

How to make a video call

Video calling lets you call your contacts using Okitel Desktop for free, even if they’re in another country. Video calling uses your internet connection. Desktop calling is supported on Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 and newer and macOS 10.13 and newer. Group calls aren’t supported on Okitel Desktop at this time.
Use desktop calling

To make or receive video calls on Okitel Desktop:

  • You’ll need an active internet connection on your computer and phone.
  • Okitel needs access to your computer’s microphone and camera.
  • You’ll need to have an audio output device, microphone, and camera connected to your computer for calls. Video calling isn’t supported on device’s without a camera.
Note: Use a headset for the best audio. Using a separate external microphone and speaker devices might cause echo.

      • If you want to hide a suggested or recent contact from Home on your Portal, you can press and hold the contact you want to hide, then tap or select

. Currently, there’s no option to unhide a suggested or recent contact.

      • Hiding a contact only hides the contact on your Portal and isn’t the same as blocking a contact on Okitel. Hidden contacts won’t be able to call your Portal and you won’t be able to call them.

Troubleshooting steps

If you are having issues verifying, please try the following:
  • Reboot your phone (To reboot your phone, turn it off, wait for 30 seconds, and turn it back on).
  • Delete and reinstall the latest version of Okitel.
  • Send a test SMS message from any phone to your own phone number exactly as you entered it in Okitel, including the country code, to check your reception.
We can’t send your code via any other method due to security reasons.

How to register your account with a missed call

When you create a Okitel account or re-register an existing account, you must confirm that you own your phone number, which helps keep your account secure. To successfully register your account, you must have an active SIM card in your device for the phone number you’re registering and a stable internet and cellular connection.
You can verify that you own your phone number via phone call or SMS. If you have the option to verify your account through a phone call, you can complete verification with a missed call from Okitel.
How to manage permissions
If given the option to register with a missed call, you must grant Okitel the following permissions:
  • Manage calls: Allows Okitel to automatically end the incoming phone call.
  • Access to call log: Okitel requires access to your call log so we can do a one-time check that you received the call.
Once you grant both of these permissions, you’ll receive a phone call, which Okitel will automatically end, to complete your registration. You don’t need to accept the phone call, and you might not see the incoming call. This will appear in your call log as a missed or rejected call from an unknown number.
If you choose to deny these permissions before completing registration, you must verify your phone number via SMS in order to register. When prompted, enter the 6-digit registration code sent to you via SMS to complete registration.
Note: You can disable these permissions at any time. To manage permissions, navigate to your device’s Settings and tap Apps > Okitel Permissions.
